Peanut-headed Lanternfly
Fulgora laternaria
- Habitat
- Central and South American tropical rainforests
- Body length
- 90 mm
- Order
- Hemiptera · Fulgoridae
Weird but real
Its bulbous head is a hollow fake shaped like a snake's, complete with painted false eyes to scare predators.
Why it's cool
A planthopper that wears a whole reptile skull as a hat, then flashes owl-eye hindwings if the snake bluff fails.
