Orchid Mantis

uncommon

Orchid Mantis

Hymenopus coronatus

Habitat
Tropical forests of Southeast Asia
Body length
70 mm
Order
Mantodea · Hymenopodidae

Weird but real

Mimics an orchid so well that flowers nearby attract MORE pollinators when it's hiding among them.

Why it's cool

Doesn't just camouflage. It actively out-orchids real orchids. The first known case of aggressive floral mimicry.
