Lobster Moth
Stauropus fagi
- Habitat
- Broadleaf woodland and hedgerows across the Palearctic
- Wingspan
- 70 mm
- Order

Weird but real
Its caterpillar arches back and waves long legs, looking more like a tiny lobster than a moth larva.
Why it's cool
A plain brown adult hides one of the strangest caterpillar bodies in the cabinet: all claws, humps, and theatrical threat pose.
