Horsehead Grasshopper
Pseudoproscopia scabra
- Habitat
- Tropical forests of northern South America
- Body length
- 150 mm
- Order
- Orthoptera · Proscopiidae
Weird but real
Its stretched head and twig-thin body disguise a true grasshopper that can launch itself away on powerful hind legs.
Why it's cool
It looks like a stick insect wearing a tiny horse mask, then reveals the jumping gear hidden in that impossible silhouette.
