Hieroglyphic Moth
Baorisa hieroglyphica
- Habitat
- Montane forests of northeast India, Nepal and Southeast Asia
- Wingspan
- 40 mm
- Order
- Lepidoptera · Nolidae
Weird but real
Its forewings look inked with red, black and white symbols, like a coded manuscript no one can read.
Why it's cool
A living illuminated page: nature drew crisp geometric glyphs on a moth and left the meaning blank.
