Giant Chinese Dobsonfly
Acanthacorydalis fruhstorferi
- Habitat
- Clean mountain streams in southern China and northern Vietnam
- Body length
- 80 mm
- Order
- Megaloptera · Corydalidae
Weird but real
Its wings can span 21.6 cm, the Guinness-record wingspan for an aquatic insect—even though the adult lives on land.
Why it's cool
It turns a stream-dwelling childhood into a dragon-sized adult with smoky lace wings and gloriously excessive jaws.
