European Mantis
Mantis religiosa
- Habitat
- Meadows of Europe, North Africa, Asia & introduced to North America
- Body length
- 75 mm
- Order
- Mantodea · Mantidae
Weird but real
Has a single ear in the middle of its chest, tuned to detect bat echolocation mid-flight.
Why it's cool
The platonic mantis. Sexual cannibalism only happens about 30% of the time, so the myth is half true.
